  • A NEW 2009 RECRUITING STUDY:

  • Adherence and Health Effects of Video Dance Exercise and Brisk Walking in Postmenopausal Women: A Randomized Controlled Trial

    PI: Stephanie A. Studenski, MD

Description: A study to evaluate the health effects of moderate intensity exercise for postmenopausal women ages 50 - 65 using the video dance game, Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) and brisk walking.

IF INTERESTED IN BECOMING INVOLVED IN THIS STUDY PLEASE CONTACT:

  • Previous Recruiting Studies:

  • Fear of Falling: Integrating Psychological and Gait Constructs

    PI: Rakie Cham, PhD

Description: Through this study, we will gain a fundamental understanding of the relationship between fear of falling, mental health and walking behavior. This study may have important implications in the treatment of fear of falling and its adverse effects.

  • Is Intentional Weight Loss Detrimental or Beneficial for Function in Older Adults?
And if Older Adults Lose Weight, What are Potentially the Most Effective Strategies for Healthy Weight Loss?

    PI: Bret Goodpaster, PhD

Description: The increasing prevalence of obesity in older adults has raised important questions about whether weight loss is detrimental or beneficial for function in older adults. And, if older adults intentionally lose weight, what are potentially the most effective strategies for healthy weight loss?

  • Records of Walking (ROW) Study

    PI: Elizabeth Schlenk, PhD, RN

Description: The purpose of the ROW Study is to look at six ways to measure walking in older adults and find out which methods they prefer and found easiest to use.

  • Restoring Skill in Walking: A Motor Re-Learning Approach to Intervention for Older Adults with Mobility Disability

    PI: Jessie VanSwearingen, PhD, PT

Description: While exercise appears to improve physical function and may reduce falls for older adults, less is known about specific interventions or the relation between response to intervention and the underlying problems. We will compare response to a general exercise program for improving strength, flexibility and endurance and response to an exercise program focusing on improving movement control (skill) on walking ability and confidence in walking and balance in older adults with mild to moderate walking problems.
